About the Clinic

We try our best to create an empathetic therapeutic environment that is non-judgmental and client-focused. Our approach is very open, honest and always encourages power-sharing.


We are specialized in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of a wide range of psychological problems affecting adults, children and families.


We also provide psychological assessments and treatments for individuals suffering from autism, anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress, depression, chronic pain or body dysmorphic disorder by using EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) . The Clinic offers a broad range of clinical psychology services to the general community. These services include adult, child, adolescent and family therapy; adult, adolescent and child psychometric assessments.

About Dr. McCarthy

Dr. McCarthy PortraitDr. McCarthy obtained her doctorate in Clinical Psychology in France. She is licensed by the Department of Health and Medical Services and established her own private practice called the Counselling and Development Clinic in Jumeirah 3. The clinic provides counselling services to individuals, families, couples, groups, and people of all ages, including children and adolescents.


With her vast experience both in Europe and the Middle East, she works in English, French, Persian, Arabic and Turkish. Prior to opening her own private clinic, she was part of the team that opened the American Hospital and still continues to be an active member of the hospital as a visiting psychologist and was a member of the quality control committee until 2008.


She has taught at several universities and currently supervises post-graduate students’ theses.


She has written several articles in national and international newspapers and magazines. She is the author of the book “Learn to say No” on the subject of sexual abuse.
