STOMACH ULCERWhat does an ulcer tell us from the point of view of psychosomaticsPsychosomatics studies the influence of a person’s mental state on his body. In other words, how your thoughts affect your health. American psychoanalyst Franz Alexander described 7 diseases that, according to his research conducted at the University of Chicago, have a psychosomatic basis and peptic ulcer disease is one of these diseases. According to Louise Hay, the cause of ulcers is lies fear. A stomach ulcer can also form in a crisis situation, when a person did not receive the expected support and became offended or angry. When the emotion of fear arises, the body goes into a state of combat readiness and a number of physiological reactions occur in it, completely changing its functioning. The longer the stress as a result of fear, the more catastrophic its consequences; stress risks turning into distress (a condition that occurs when the body is unable to adapt to new conditions), and high blood pressure, disruption of the digestive system and other abnormalities may remain with you forever! Therefore, if you are afraid of something, for example, getting infected with a virus, being left without a job or without money, getting a divorce, or, on the contrary, starting your own business and for a long time you have been in this feeling of insecurity and uncertainty, you definitely need to learn how to solve the issues that this fear highlights, instead to get stuck in them or ignore them. Otherwise, you risk developing very real somatic diseases, such as ulcers, asthma, dermatitis and others. Solving issues means changing your ways of thinking, reacting, habits, and developing missing skills. To heal the psychosomatics of stomach ulcers, Louise Hay suggests how at least repeated repetition of a positive statement: “My life does not harm me. I always absorb new things throughout the day. Everything is fine” or “I love and approve of myself. There is peace in my soul, everything is going well.” Here it is very important to test the new belief for realism and, if necessary, adapt it to suit yourself. Therefore, I personally recommend still exploring the causes of psychosomatic disorders in individual work with a psychologist who will help you work through the traumatic experience of the past, on which your present is based. Together with a psychologist in a safe and supportive environment, you will be able to identify your fears, face them, work through them and, based on their beliefs and attitudes, rewrite them into new ones that suit YOU.
