Every parent wants their child to grow up healthy and happy and, as an adult, to achieve success in all areas of life. Mom and dad can lay the foundation for a good future for their children by instilling healthy habits in them. What are healthy habits? All habits that benefit a person are called healthy. These include:• brushing your teeth in the morning and evening;• rinsing your mouth after each meal;• washing your hands before eating;• sports activities: warming up, exercise and, as an alternative, jogging in the morning;• performing important tasks in the first half of the day. ;• going to bed before 12 o'clock at night, etc. Any useful action that is repeated at a given frequency can be turned into a good habit. An important condition is not to take a long pause between repetitions. How to develop healthy habits in a child. A person gets used to doing certain actions that are repeated at certain intervals. It is difficult to force a child to do something he does not like, so parents need to think about how to make the process as enjoyable and interesting as possible. For example, for a child who is taught to regularly brush his teeth, they buy a special toothpaste with the taste of chewing gum, fruit, and also a brush with a handle in the shape of fairy-tale or cartoon characters. When washing hands, it is advisable to focus on the child’s independence: “Well done, you washed your hands yourself!” . It is necessary to motivate the child by showing him the result: “What white, clean teeth now! They sparkle like diamonds.” A few repetitions (usually 5–10 times) are enough to develop a habit. However, children must be supervised until he says: “Mom, I have already brushed my teeth and washed my hands.” Advice for parents: Good habits allow you to streamline your child’s life and make it clearer and more stable. When disciplining your children, do not forget about your own discipline. It is the parents who are the standard from which the child takes an example. At first, perform the action together with your child in order to interest him and make the process more fun. To form a habit, the following components are important: • motivation; • interest; • pleasure. The child will get used to performing a useful action faster and easier if he is personally interested in the results and while experiencing pleasant emotions. Come up with a reward system where the prize is something that the baby really likes. This could be a hug and verbal praise, a favorite drink or dish, a pleasant little thing. Over time, the reward system can be removed, and an older child will experience the same positive emotions when performing a habitual action. The path to forming sustainable healthy habits takes quite a long time. Parents need to be patient and under no circumstances force their child to do anything through force and tears. Moreover, one cannot manipulate fears by scaring a child with “a worm in unbrushed teeth” or microbes that will eat the tummy if you don’t wash your hands. Good luck in raising children!
